Meet the Team
I was born & raised in NE Iowa in Cresco. Growing up on the edge of a small town with lots of land was great! I got to spend lots of time outside playing in nature. Whether it was just walking the dog, making forts in the woods, or planting trees, I was always outside. When I got older I got a job working at a local grocery store & joined the management program which moved me down to the Quad cities. I was no longer in a small town. I went from a town of 5,000 – 500,000. It was definitely a change that took a while to get use to! Living in an apartment with no free land close to me made me miss home a lot. After a few years down there I got transferred to Fairmont, MN with my store. I moved to a new place with a little bit of land & right on the edge of town so I got to see deer & wildlife periodically which was fantastic. That’s when I began contemplating moving to Colorado. I always loved the thought of living there, with a great mixture of city & nature. I gave Iowa one last chance, this time in Sioux Center, but only lasted a year there before I had to move. So Jan 1, 2014 I started the process to move out to Colorado, visiting & looking for jobs & a place to live. By April, I had everything set & by the end of May I did it! The first year was amazing beyond words. I went hiking, biking, & rock climbing. I finally got to be back in nature again & was loving it. In May 2015, I met Heather & it changed both of our lives forever. We both have the same dreams & passions & bring out the best in each other. Now, the real journey begins!
My passions center around the beauty of the natural world. We’re so lucky to have our National Lands & Parks & I love exploring them & road tripping between them. I’m a strong advocate of protecting these natural lands. When I’m not exploring the wilderness, I’m working as a biogeoscientist & educator. This background makes observing the natural landscapes & ecology all the more exciting! I’ve lived in several U.S. states, such as Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, California, & Colorado, and I’ve traveled to more than half of the states. Along this journey, I worked in fields such as marketing, research, consulting, & education. My passions center around my never-ending quest to learn more & educate others in the sciences. I’ve been lucky enough to backpack in Patagonia, plus parts of Canada, & Central & South America. My favorite spots include Mt. Rainier, the Cascades, Yellowstone & Beartooth, San Juan Mountains in Colorado, British Columbia & Jasper in Canada, Tierra del Fuego & El Chalten in South America., & good ol’ NW Montana! After meeting Ramsey, I now have a partner to share these wonderful experiences with. I have far less possessions than most people I know, yet I could not ask for more. The adoration of things does not bring us happiness, but the love for our world & each other opens up doors we could never imagine. Be who you want, go where you want, & just live. Live a life that makes you smile nearly ever second – if not change it immediately. Wake up & smile to be alive, to feel the sun, to make a difference for someone around you. This is happiness. And this is our life.
Lillee a.k.a Adventure Pooch
I’m an adventurous pooch indeed, already going to over 20 U.S. states & I’ll soon be adding more, as well as Canada! I’m originally from a Florida humane society, where I started life as an abused puppy who ended up in the shelter. None of my brothers & sisters survived – just me. I don’t know how people can be so mean to dogs, but I’m thankful for those of you who care about us. Lucky for me, one day Heather came into the shelter & I put on the cutest show ever because I wanted her to be my mommy. She adopted me & a life-long bond formed. We traveled all over together & she took me to the coolest places to hike. I learned to climb up the sides of rocks when I get really excited (it scares mom when I do this). Then, one day we met Ramsey & we have all been inseparable since. I think we are one of the happiest packs out there! Mom & dad said we’re going to go rescue another dog soon, so I have a furry friend more like me. I thought I was just like mom & dad, so I dont know what they’re talking about. I hope the new friend doesn’t take all the treats & attention. I’ll have a lot to teach her! One afternoon, dad brought home a new backpack for me! Now I get to carry my water, treats, & coat so I can go on the long hikes with mom & dad. I love traveling, hiking, & playing at parks. I even play hide & seek & dance, but usually just for treats! I’ve learned to play in the snow even though I have short hair & was born in the southeast. My coats & boots help! You can read all about my amazing adventures here.
